From the Apollo Missions to the future of aerospace – New app released with thrilling VR film journeys to the Moon and beyond.
German VR studio Faber Courtial just announced that their award-winning VR films 1ST STEP and 2ND STEP have been released in the brand-new app INTO SPACE: 1ST AND 2ND STEP (link).
In two intriguing Virtual Reality films, viewers set off for fascinating VR expeditions into space. They explore unknown worlds by visiting settings of extraordinary richness of detail and authenticity – perfectly reconstructed in 3D on basis of original data from NASA and ESA – that convey an authentic sensation of how it must feel to actually be out in the open cosmos.
1ST STEP tells the magical story of the Apollo missions – from the rocket launch up to the return on earth. For the first time, viewers experience this awe-inspiring adventure in a completely new way in VR as they get the chance to perceive the extreme dimensions of the missions in an unprecedented spatial quality through the eyes of the astronauts, such as the unbelievable narrowness of the command capsule, but also the surprising topography of the lunar landscape.
With 2ND STEP, they take a step further by joining space pilots on a future mission to the Moon and Mars, visiting a number of thrilling settings: the landing spot of Apollo 11, the Lunar Orbital Platform-Gateway (which is currently under planning), the Shackleton-Crater at the South Pole of the Moon and – finally – Mars, a desert planet of superlatives, with the most immense volcanoes and the deepest canyon in the solar system.
The app is available for Viveport (link) and Oculus Go (link). Additionally, both films can be watched with the Quest via the Alcove app which is available in the Quest store (in the app’s travel section – watch out for the rocket!).
Furthermore, as a platform alternative, the VeeR app provides an option to license 1ST STEP and 2ND STEP via Steam or Rift.
