Playing with Fire: An Immersive Odyssey with Yuja Wang is a mixed-reality concert experience created around the pianist Yuja Wang. In the room, a Steinway Spirio piano replays her performance in perfect synchrony with her captured presence; around it, nine works open into nine worlds. Together they tell a single story: a history of humanity, told through music.

The thread of that story is fire — and the fire begins with Yuja. She has always been described as fiery, flamboyant; something of fire burns in her playing, and this experience sets out to explore that. Writer-director PierreAlain Giraud wrote a story that grew out of her personality, then composed the programme with her, piece by piece.
