Welcome to MOA, your personal assistant. Just an average day in 2040, you are offered a string of services, analyses and interactions by an OS that knows you and genuinely cares about you. You cheerfully participate in making all these trifling decisions in the hope you’ll be able to upgrade your citizen plan to Premium, which will give you access to new, previously restricted parts of the city.

How long until you fight back?

MOA is an augmented reality application for smartphones. Adapted from the novel Les Furtifs by Alain Damasio, it lets your delve into the futuristic urban world the novelist imagined. It’s 2040: the actual urban architecture hasn’t changed, it’s the augmented reality overlay that transforms the city. Public space is overrun with surveillance and marketing. But your personal assistant is there to help you navigate it all: it follows you everywhere you go, making life effortless.

Written by Charles Ayats, Alain Damasio and Fréderic Deslias, this 20-minute application will be available online in April 2020 and at participating venues. It was coproduced by Red Corner, France Télévisions, La Volte, Le Clair Obscur, Le Forum des Images, Small Studio et Chroniques, with support from the CNC and Normandie Images.
