Synopsis

In 1632, an Amsterdam archival record described Francisca de Angola, a free Black woman, as a troublemaker. Read between the lines, the document suggests a businesswoman who connected the city's Black immigrant community. This animated, interactive VR opera follows Idil, a journalist who feels invisible in present-day Amsterdam. Guided by a mythical narrator, she meets her ancestor Francisca in a space between remembrance and erasure, where both women, with the participant, try to recover and preserve their voices.
